Our Senior footballers go top of Division 1

Senior Football League – Division 1, Round 5

Beaufort vs Kenmare Shamrocks

Our senior footballers took to the field in Beaufort on a sunny April day and produced a very strong all-round display, coming away with a comprehensive 2-24 to 0-12 victory.

After a slightly sluggish opening 15 minutes, our forwards found their rhythm and kept the scoreboard ticking steadily up to half time. The O’Sullivan contingent played a central role in the attack, with Donal O’Sullivan and Kevin O’Sullivan both contributing key scores, while the wider forward unit ensured a constant spread of scoring threats.

In the 18th minute, a high ball was delivered in by Donal. Although the goalkeeper initially gathered it, his handpass was intercepted by the alert David Hallissey, who quickly offloaded to Jack Tangney. Jack made no mistake, rifling the ball to the net and giving us a four-point cushion – just the boost we needed.

From there to half time, we added a further six points from Jimmy Lehane, Zack O’Shea, David Hallissey, Dara O’Shea, and a superb two-pointer from Kevin O’Sullivan. Our ability to work scores from play was particularly impressive, with sharp movement, clever link-up play, and accurate finishing a feature throughout.

Half Time
Beaufort 0-06
Kenmare Shamrocks 1-11

The second half was largely controlled by Kenmare, as we added 1-13 to our tally. There were a number of changes at the break and throughout the half – Cian O’Sullivan was replaced by Jack Sweeney, Shane O’Sullivan came on for David Ciuciu on 40 minutes, while Paul O’Connor and Liam O’Sullivan entered the game on 46 minutes in place of Dawid Grembowiec and David Hallissey.

The impact from the bench was immediate. Liam chipped in with a point soon after his introduction, while Paul added two excellent scores and provided a clever assist for Kevin O’Sullivan’s late goal.

One of the standout moments of the game was Donal’s superb left-footed effort from out on the wing, which curled in off the far post – certainly a contender for score of the match. Other contributors on the day included Tommy Cronin (who made sure he got a mention!), James McCarthy, and David Hallissey.

Defensively, Kenmare Shamrocks were just as impressive as they were in attack. Their structure, tackling, and relentless work rate forced Beaufort into shooting from distance, while turnovers were quickly converted into attacking opportunities. The discipline at the back laid the foundation for the team’s dominance.

Overall, this was a complete and commanding team performance, combining attacking flair with defensive solidity.

Yesterday’s win sees us sitting top of the Division 1 table – a testament to the hard work put in so far. We are back in action next Saturday night against Dr Crokes in Fr. Breen Park. Throw-in is at 7pm, so be sure to come out early as a big crowd is expected.

Thanks to all our supporters for the fantastic backing as always!
