Seniors off to a winning start in the County League

Senior Football League

Division 1 – Round 1
Gneeveguilla GAA vs Kenmare Shamrocks GAA

Under the new management of Peter O’Sullivan, our senior footballers kicked off their 2026 County League campaign with a well-earned win away to Gneeveguilla today.

To say the day was blustery would be an understatement, but both teams seemed to deal with the difficult conditions well. Zack O’Shea opened the scoring for Kenmare before the home side responded with two well-taken points. Kevin O’Sullivan, David Ciuciu, and Jack Tangney were next to get on the scoresheet, followed by Kieran Fitzgibbon, who stepped up from goals to convert a 45.

On the 25-minute mark, Jack Tangney added his second point, only for it to be cancelled out shortly afterwards by an excellent two-pointer from Gneeveguilla. Kevin O’Sullivan then added his second from play, and we went in at the break with a three-point lead.

Half Time
Gneeveguilla 0-04
Kenmare Shamrocks 0-07

Soon after the restart, Tommy O’Sullivan (Atlantic) finished a lovely move with a point, quickly followed by another from Tommy Cronin. By the time Jimmy Lehane got on the scoresheet, Kenmare were six points up and playing very well.

Defensively, Kenmare were solid throughout. Tommy (Arthur) O’Sullivan marshalled the full-back line with authority. On his right was Jack Sweeney, making his league debut, while Darragh O’Connor provided his usual reliability on the left. The half-back line of Liam O’Sullivan, James McCarthy, and Tommy Cronin worked tirelessly throughout.

Shane O’Sullivan introduced Pearse O’Brien on 45 minutes, and soon after Kenmare were awarded a penalty, which Jack Tangney calmly slotted to the keeper’s right. The scoreboard now read 1-10 to 0-06.

Stephen O’Brien (C) then kicked a wonderful two-pointer on 50 minutes which effectively sealed the result. Cian O’Sullivan replaced Liam O’Sullivan, while Griffin Wharton came on for Tommy O’Sullivan (Atlantic). Jimmy Lehane capped off the performance with his own two-pointer in injury time.
