McCarthy Insurance Group SFL Div 1 – Round 7
Our senior footballers produced a very good team performance to record an emphatic 2-16 to 0-8 victory over Rathmore in Round 7 of the McCarthy Insurance Group Senior Football League Division 1.
Donal O’Sullivan opened our account early with a point from play before following up with another excellent score from play, which edged the Shamrocks ahead after Rathmore’s early response.
The key moment of the half arrived on 6 minutes when James McCarthy found the net from play to put Kenmare firmly in control. Jimmy Lehane added another point from play before Fionn Murphy contributed both from play for Rathmore.
Jack Tangney kept the scoreboard moving with a well-taken point on 21 minutes before Rathmore responded with a score of their own.
Defensively, we were very solid, with Liam O’Sullivan slotting in comfortably at corner back, while Tommy O’Sullivan and Darragh maintained the rearguard with authority. The one time Rathmore breached our defence, they did not get past Kieran Fitz in goals, who pulled off a great save.
Just before the interval, Zack O’Shea struck for an excellent two-pointer from play to give Kenmare Shamrocks a deserved five-point advantage at the break.

We immediately took control of the second half when Tommy Cronin popped up and struck a sweet two-pointer. Donal O’Sullivan followed up with a point of his own before the home side had a brief spell where they pinned us back.
During that period, Fionn Murphy and Darren Nagle added three points to the scoreboard. Kieran Fitz was called into action soon after to make another excellent save and when he was finally beaten, Dara O’Shea was there to clear the ball off the line.
Further changes saw Tom Murnane introduced alongside David Hallissey (replacing David Grembowiec and Jimmy Lehane) and this steadied things again. Murnane, James McCarthy, David Ciuciu and captain Stephen O’Brien all kicked points to push the score out to 1-13 to 0-7 with 47 minutes gone.
Additional substitutions included Shane O’Sullivan replacing Zack O’Shea and Michael Tangney coming in for Dan McCarthy. Tom Murnane added another point from play before Eoghan McCarthy was introduced for Stephen O’Brien on 57 minutes as the Shamrocks managed the closing stages efficiently.
The game was rounded off in style when David Hallissey punched the ball to the net in injury time to cap a powerful second-half display and confirm a fourteen-point win.
