Match Report – v Kerins O’Rahillys 12/06/2021

Kenmare Shamrocks V Kerins O’Rahillys

Credit Union Senior Football League Division 1 – Rd 1

Our senior football team took on Tralee’s Kerins O’Rahillys last Saturday evening in a sunny Fr Breen Park in Kenmare. This was the first round of the County league and it didn’t disappoint as the sides could not be separated in the end.

In a scrappy first half where both teams were guilty of poor passing. The Strand road side got off the mark first with a point from a Jack Savage free. This sparked us into life as we kicked three points in a row from the boots of Mark Crowley, Matt Murnane, and Paul O’Connor.  By the end of the first half, we had added two more, one from the impressive Pierce O’Brien and the other from a Paul O’Connor free. At the break, the club’s new scoreboard read Kenmare Shamrocks 0-05 Kerins O’Rahillys 0-02

Kerins O’Rahillys would always have their purple patch and this came early in the second half where they kicked 6 unanswered points mostly from the boot of Savage and Barry John Keane.

Trailing by three points with only six minutes remaining, we needed a change in fortunes and we got one. A well-worked move with swift precise passing ended with Mícheál McCarthy rattling the back on the Rahillys net. This lifted Kenmare’s spirits again after being under the cosh for most of the second half. David Ciuciu replaced the evergreen Mark Crowley and moments later was involved in a move to see David Hallissey kick us into a one-point lead.

With little time left on the clock, Rahillys worked the ball down the field where Jack Savage kicked the leveling point. Soon after the referee blew up for full time with both clubs settling for a point apiece.

Overall a fair result with an important league point won taking that we were missing seven players due to inter-county commitments or injury.

Final Score – Kenmare Shamrocks 1-06 0-09 Kerins O’Rahillys

Best for Kenmare were Pierce O’Brien and Cian O’Sullivan while Jack Savage and Barry John Keane showed best for KOS.
